Following the sharp increase in electricity and gas prices over the summer, and as consequences are increasingly being felt by European households with the beginning of the winter heating season, EGEC wrote a letter to the European Council and the European Commission. The letter reacts to the proposals by European Member States to alleviate the crisis by distributing fossil fuel subsidies. This approach is not sustainable financially, and does not prevent future crises. Investments towards a well functioning European heat market are necessary.
