EGEC welcomes the Commission’s effort to assess the state of public funding and the capacity of EU countries to increase the uptake of private investment in energy efficiency. We firmly believe that geothermal energy can give a great contribution towards this objective.

In order to facilitate the establishment of financing facilities dedicated to energy efficiency investments, we propose to include in the Commission’s guidelines a mention of the following good practices to be disseminated in all Member States:

  • uptake of public and private investments in energy efficiency, in particular Public-Private Partnerships, national financial de-risking schemes and heat infrastructure programs
  • associating energy efficiency with a carbon component, like in the case of Energy and Carbon Performance Contracts
