EGEC submitted its reply to the EPBD public consultation, emphasizing the importance to put renewable energy systems such as geothermal at the core of the EU’s building policies, and to align from 2021 onwards the EU’s building provisions with the objective of decarbonisation of the building sector. The position also highlighted the importance of stopping fossil fuel subsidies which create unfair competition for geothermal technologies. Moreover, as part of the Renewable Heating and Cooling alliance, EGEC contributed a second input to the public consultation emphasizing the same priorities.
