On 18 May 2022, the Commission presented its REPowerEU plan as a response to the hardships and global energy market disruption caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The EU Solar Energy Strategy, which was launched within the REPowerEU package, stated a target for the capacity of geothermal to triple by 2030. This is the first time a growth target has been applied to the geothermal sector. It sends a strong market signal.
