As part of the Decarbheat initiative, which gathers several heating and cooling industry associations with the objective to advocate for European policies that are in line with the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector, EGEC co-signed a press release on the topic of the European Green Deal.

The press release notably insists on the fact that to reach the objectives laid out by the European Commission, notably to cut greenhouse gases emissions by at least 50% in 2030 (a proposal that is already not ambitious enough to put the EU economy in line with decarbonisation by 2050), robust policies must be put in place to engage the decarbonisation of the heating and cooling sector right away. These include:

  • No more fossil fuel subsidies;
  • Full implementation of adopted policies (in particular the heating and cooling target in the Renewable Energy Directive);
  • Identifying investment needs in infrastructures and R&D for heating and cooling.
