The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) and Geothermie-Suisse are delighted to announce that the European Geothermal Congress (EGC) will be held on 6-10 October 2025 in Zürich, Switzerland.
Brussels, 17th April 2024 – The European Committee of the Regions’ plenary adopted its Opinion entitled “On the role of geothermal in localising energy production”, led by József Ribányi from the European Conservatives & Reformist Group (ECR), with nearly total support.
Available for members and non-members(until the 24th of April) Only 7 slots available This is the second year that EGEC offers members and non-members the possibility to advertise themselves through the one and only geothermal Market Report in Europe. Only 7 slots are available.
EGEC welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Commission’s guidelines on designating renewables acceleration areas (RAAs) and highlight the following: Need for a fair evaluation of geothermal-based electricity A higher use of non-price criteria is needed Need for renewable energy auctions by technology Read the full EGEC Response. See EGEC factsheet on Auctions to deploy geothermal.

Registration is now open for the Mine Water Energy Symposium 2024, taking place on 24-26 April 2024 in Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, Scotland. Online attendance (for free) is also possible. Click here to register for the event. After three successful online events, the Mine Water Energy Symposium will be held in-person for the first time this year with online streaming options. The symposium will bring together international participants to share case studies of mine water heating projects as well as developments in mine thermal energy storage. The symposium’s focus will be on areas of research including heat-flow modelling, biogeochemistry and social sciences. Talks on regulatory aspects of mine water geothermal will be complemented by a regulation workshop session aiming to draw on international experiences. There will also be a poster display. A field trip to the UK Geoenergy Observatory in Glasgow (a research and development facility for mine water geothermal) will run on the morning of Friday 26 April from 09:00 to 13:30. Places are limited and there is a fee of £17.00 to attend, which includes travel to and from the event. The field trip is only open to participants of the main symposium. The full event programme can be accessed via this link. The event is being organized by The British Geological Survey, The Coal Authority, IEA Geothermal, and The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.

SEEnergy, an international conference and trade expo, will be held on May 15 and 17, 2024. Every two years, we will assess the countries of Southeast Europe’s progress in the area of green transition, systematically examine the challenges they face, and encourage discussions on how to overcome them. We will also present recent developments in technology and legislation and offer comparative examples of best practices across countries. The involvement of state agencies, institutions, energy companies, and other stakeholders involved in the organization demonstrates the importance of the green transition in Slovenia. EGEC Members: Get a Discount! A special perk: EGEC Members get a 20% discount. Do you want to know more? Contact us at events@egec.org and receive your discount! Want to become a member? Geothermal energy, known for its consistent and reliable nature, can become a valuable counterpart to intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Geosmart investigates technological and operational aspects, highlighting geothermal’s flexibility benefits to the energy system. Join us as we unveil two demonstration sites showcasing technology tests conducted in Germany and Turkey. Additionally, we will present findings from the comprehensive mapping of geothermal stakeholders in Iceland. This will include insights into their specific needs and preferences concerning flexibility solutions, focusing on the innovative offerings provided by Geosmart. The event is free of charge, open to the public, and will take place at 13:00 on 28th May 2024 at Ríma, Harpa, Reykjavik. Limited seats, first come, first served. More information.
