The Methane Emission Regulation is the first step in creating a level-playing field that removes the anti-competitive privileges enjoyed by fossil fuel providers.

EGEC, together with a broad group of businesses, civil society organisations and think tanks sent an open letter to Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans.

EGEC Members are invited to provide feedback by 07/01/2021 to the European Commission questionnaire on the review of the State Aid Guidelines. This questionnaire notably looks to identify the most relevant ways to direct state aid to the efficient market uptake of renewable energy technologies.

EGEC welcomes the European Commission’s call to revise its competition policy that will support the successful implementation of the European Green Deal.

EGEC sent its inputs on the review of EU’s methodology on energy statistics after meeting the European Commission earlier this month to discuss the representation of geothermal energy in EU statistics.

The integration of circularity into geothermal energy production indicates that all its components and products need to be optimised, re-used, repaired, redistributed, refurbished, and/or remanufactured. Circularity is the cornerstone of a sustainable future, where geothermal and other renewable sources have a crucial role to play.

EGEC welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the consultation process on the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive. The targets need to be reviewed upward to at least -55% GHG by 2030, with a consistent reassessment of energy efficiency and renewable energy targets. More details here

EGEC sent a letter to the Commission recommending a full review of the impact of the competitive distortion of the Internal Market for Gas legal base as well as its associated direct and indirect fossil fuel subsidies on the provision of renewable heating and cooling services, particularly competition from geothermal energy sources.

EGEC, together with Bioenergy Europe and Solar Heat Europe, sent a letter to the Commission on empowering the Renewable Energy Directive to deliver the European Green Deal and Renovation Wave.

The first Horizon Europe Strategic Plan will define the strategic orientations for Europe’s R&I investments over the period 2021-2024. Among its recommendations, EGEC underlined the R&I funding needs for innovative technologies, like geothermal lithium.
