Renewable Energy Directive
EGEC Goethermal and 8 other associations signed a joint position on innovative technologies in the RED III. The Commission’s assessment of the 27 National Energy & Climate Plans is stark – Member States are currently not harnessing R&I to deliver on their climate and energy objectives.
Innovation Fund
EGEC contributed to the public consultation on the proposed changes to the Innovation Fund application procedure for large-scale projects. In its contribution, EGEC expressed its support for the European Commission’s proposal to provide project development assistance in the form of grants and technical assistance facility. EGEC also advocated for a dedicated category for renewable heating, cooling, electricity and lithium extraction in the Innovation Fund. You can find the document here

Renewable Energy Directive
EGEC Geothermal together with the 8 other associations addressed the European Commission in a joint letter and called for including in the revised Renewable Energy Directive: (1) a binding target for renewable heating and cooling and (2) a requirement for Member States, in consultation with local authorities, to develop and implement national plans to decarbonise the heating and cooling sector.

EGEC submitted its reply to the EPBD public consultation, emphasizing the importance to put renewable energy systems such as geothermal at the core of the EU’s building policies, and to align from 2021 onwards the EU’s building provisions with the objective of decarbonisation of the building sector.

The European Commission launched a public Inception Impact Assessment consultation on the Hydrogen and Gas Decarbonisation Package. The aim is to review the EU's rules on the role of gas and all forms of hydrogen into the context of the Fit for 55% package. It also covers access to markets for geothermal energy and other renewable energy solutions.
